Retiring President's Message

Rodney Lum, OD

It is with a mixture of gladness and sadness that I write my last President's Message. I never could have imagined I would occupy this position for such a long term when I became president five years ago. At that time I was a novice at leadership and it took me time to get up to speed in handling the many demands of an active organization. I also had to get used to the idea of giving orders instead of receiving them. And I had to learn to both criticize others and take heat myself. And while it was easy for me to dole out praise, I found myself uneasy receiving it. I am happy to have had this apprenticeship since I have developed some good tools for life in general. full article

History is for Living... Learning is for Life!

As a CHCP founding member and now President, I have been working with the Directors, Trustees, and Advisory Board Members to continue our mission of educating, promoting, and preserving the history and culture of the Chinese and Chinese Americans, particularly in the Santa Clara Valley.

The Heritage Education Link Program (HELP) Grants have been awarded to several organizations as of June and we look forward to applications from teachers promoting diversity in the schools.  full article

20TH ANNIVERSARY: A JOURNEY WITH HISTORY

By Arthur Low, Carol Fong, and Pearl Lee

It is hard to believe but CHCP is now 20 years old! A celebration GALA was held on October 27th at the Santa Clara Marriott. A celebration rather than a fund raiser, tickets were minimally priced. 400 friends and supporters of CHCP attended.

When the doors opened after 6:00 p.m., everyone was greeted by our two emcees Thuy Vu (CBS 5) and Mike Inouye (NBC 11). They kept the program light and fun with their banter. full article
