Immigration

The Chinese Historical and Cultural Project (CHCP) provides grant opportunities to teachers who are interested in having their classes attend History San Jose (HSJ)‘s Immigration program. This HSJ program provides field trips to History Park San Jose (which includes a visit to the Chinese American Historical Museum) for students in grades 4-8 in Santa Clara County, California. The program looks into the universal issues of discrimination, cultural identity, and policies surrounding immigration, allowing students to:

    • Step into the shoes of another person through perspective-taking activities
    • Discover the challenges and triumphs of real people risking everything to start a new life in California, from lands far away and just across the border
    • Investigate the commonalities and differences between immigrant groups from the past and today
