Preserving Chinese American Art and Architecture:
Embracing the Challenges with Grit and Grace

This panel discussion by the University of California Berkeley Center of Chinese Studies will explore the challenges and successes in safeguarding the rich heritage of Chinese American art and architecture, highlighting notable examples of Chinatown San Francisco.

Panelists David Lei (historian, philanthropist, and community advocate) and Mark Dean Johnson (Professor Emeritus of Art at San Francisco State University and Advisor to the Stanford Asian American Art Initiative) will examine current initiatives in protecting Chinese American art and architecture, shedding light on the systemic and practical obstacles that hinder preservation.
