There will be a free screening of the feature-length movie, Lingering Dream of Homeland, on December 14 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the City College of San Francisco (CCSF), Chinatown campus (808 Kearny Street).
Lingering Dream of Homeland (2023) is a film by writer/director Li Weinian, a native of Taishan, Guangdong, China. Centered on the story of a multigenerational family from Taishan in the 1920s and 1930s, the film explores themes of immigration, family separation, and cultural preservation. Highlighting the history of Taishan, Li Weininan brings the beauty of its landscape and traditions to the big screen. In Cantonese, with Chinese and English subtitles, and with locally cast Taishanese actors, Lingering Dream of Homeland is appropriate for viewers of all ages.
The film screening on December 14 will be followed by a short discussion with Professor Anna Eng to answer questions and put some contextual history on the immigration and cultural experiences of Chinese families separated from loved ones in America during the Chinese Exclusion Era.
