On April 18, the Moffett Field Museum's compelling Speaker Series explored the China-Burma-India (CBI) Theater of World War II—often called the “Forgotten War.” Speakers from CHCP shared powerful and often overlooked stories, highlighting the courage, resilience, and cultural significance of Chinese American service members in WWII.
Featured speakers included Chinese American WWII Veterans, Wing Lai (101 yrs) and John Buck Chew Sr. (100 yrs), both successful businessmen: Wing Lai in wholesale tobacco, and John Buck Chew Sr., a San Mateo and Milpitas chrysanthemum grower.
Another featured speaker was CBI Historian Sheldon Lim, son of the late Chinese American WWII Veteran Harry Lim (101 yrs). Sheldon and his sister Christina are the authors of the book "In the Shadow of the Tiger, the 407th Air Service Squadron, Fourteenth Air Service Group, Fourteenth Air Force, World War II."
Also in attendance was a Lynbrook High senior, Steven Hong, dressed as Chinese American WWI hero Lau Sing Kee. Kee was a World War I recipient of the United States Army's Distinguished Service Cross and France's Croix de Guerre for extraordinary heroism in combat. His medals are on display at the Chinese American Historical Museum.
