For History San Jose (HSJ)'s Spirit of '45 Living History Day, History Park will be transformed back to the 1940s with live big band music, swing dancing, vintage fashion and vintage car shows, a WWII tent city, Victory parade, food trucks, and activities for the whole family! Period attire encouraged!
CHCP will be participating by screening their WWII film: "Our Story of War and Remembrance: Chinese American WWII Veterans of the China-Burma-India Theatre." The stories of four Chinese American WWII veterans from the San Francisco Bay Area are featured in this moving documentary of patriotism, as they served to defend the America that had denied them rights under the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. Through interviews of the veterans and their family members, the CHCP film project team of both students and adults hopes to honor, celebrate and preserve the legacy of the Chinese American WWII veterans of the China-Burma-India Theatre.
In addition, high school and college students from CHCP's Student Docent Cultural Ambassador Program (SDCAP) will be recognized by CHCP for their hard work, serving as docents in the Chinese American Historical Museum as well as volunteering for other CHCP activities.
The Chinese American Historical Museum will also be open to visitors from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
NOTE: Face masks must be worn.
