    • Oakland Asian Cultural Center, 388 9th St, Ste 290, Oakland, CA 94607

Part memoir, part history, part investigation, Chinese Couplets spans two centuries, three countries and four generations of women. This intimate story reveals the impact of America’s Chinese Exclusion Acts on filmmaker Felicia Lowe’s family. Lowe offers a nuanced, engaging approach to the debate that details the multi-generational effects of ethnically motivated immigration policies while imparting a cautionary tale of living with cultural pluralism in the 21st century.

After the screening, Lowe will moderate a discussion on inheritance and identity. Panelists will include Alana Lowe, Grant Din, and Sandy Jiang. Popcorn and light refreshments will be served.

This Oakland Asian Cultural Center (OACC) event is co-presented by the Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation (AIISF)Center for Asian American Media (CAAM), and Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA).

Join the Bay Area Chinese Genealogy Group (BACGG) and Chinese Historical and Cultural Project (CHCP) for a book reading by Ron Lee with L K Lennie Lee.

Rooted in the vivid recollections of L K Lennie Lee and expanded by her son, Ron Lee, and other descendants, this book blends oral history, myth, and archival research to reclaim erased narratives and honor the lives of “Joke Sings.”

Self-motivated, L K Lennie Lee wrote her stories to share with her family, however, her writings gathered in a binder were discovered by her nephew after her passing.

L K Lennie Lee amassed an extensive oral history of her people, as well as compiled narratives from young and old, to make observations of life in San Francisco’s and other Chinatowns, focusing on a narrative beyond the façade of tourism. L K Lennie Lee collected oral histories and transcribed conversations to document and bring to life histories of her times, which resulted in the production of Sojourners to Joke Sings: Tales of Chinatown & Beyond.

Born and raised in Chinatown, San Francisco, California, L K Lennie Lee and Ron Lee held careers as public school teachers, later becoming real estate investors. As leader activists in their communities, they fought for education and civil rights.

Want to buy the book?  Please wait till early January 2026, and we will communicate the link to purchase Ron Lee’s book. Books purchased through this link will benefit the Chinese Historical and Cultural Project.

You might not know the name Tyrus Wong, but you probably know many of the images he shaped, including the beloved Disney classic Bambi. Despite entering the US as a child during Chinese Exclusion, Tyrus Wong went on to create some of America’s best loved imagery.

Join the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum (SDCHM) on January 17, 2026 to hear film scholar and author Karen Fang discuss her book, Background Artist: The Life and Work of Tyrus Wong, which tells the inspiring story of the Chinese immigrant, centenarian, and Disney Legend whose art countered Exclusion injustice by finding American communities that welcomed him and celebrated his unique artistic talent.

New national data reveals bipartisan public support for U.S.–China cooperation and growing concern that rising tensions are hurting Chinese Americans.

The Committee of 100 (C100) partnered with NORC at the University of Chicago, one of the nation's largest independent social research organizations, to conduct its third annual State of Chinese Americans Survey. This one-of-a-kind national survey examines U.S. public views on issues affecting Chinese Americans, building on insights from the previous two surveys. The research focuses on the cultural, health, and sociopolitical situations of today’s Chinese American population.

Join the Committee of 100 for the launch of the first in a four-part series featuring national data on Americans’ views of U.S.–China relations, related domestic policies, and their impact on Chinese Americans. Their panelists will explore how public opinion, policy choices, and societal attitudes shape the Chinese American experience:

    • Sam Collitt, Research and Data Scientist at Committee of 100
    • Madeline Y. Hsu, Professor of History at the University of Maryland, College Park
    • Ian Shin, Assistant Professor of History and American Culture at the University of Michigan
    • Sheryl WuDunn, Executive, Lecturer, and Pulitzer Prize-Winning Journalist

Designed for policymakers, journalists, researchers, and community leaders, this webinar unpacks how Americans’ views of U.S.–China relations shape Chinese American experiences and offers data-driven insights to inform policy, reporting, and community action.

    Gung Hay Fat Choy!
    Gong Xi Fa Cai!

On February 17, 2026, the Asian community will celebrate the Lunar New Year, year 4724 on Chinese calendars, which is Year of the Horse.

The Horse is the seventh animal of the Chinese Zodiac. According to Chinese astrology, the Horse is confident, agreeable, and responsible, although they also tend to dislike being reined in by others. They’re fit and intelligent, adoring physical and mental exertion; they’re decisive but also easily swayed and impatient.

Chinese New Year celebrations traditionally run from Chinese New Year's Eve, the last day of the last month of the lunar calendar, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first month, while some may celebrate up to a month.

For more information: Visit our Chinese New Year page (part of our Virtual Library).

    • SJ Center for Performing Arts, 255 S. Almaden Blvd, San Jose, CA 95113

Join the Chinese Performing Arts of America (CPAA) for the 17th Annual Silicon Valley Spring Festival Gala — a spectacular celebration of culture, artistry, and community. This year’s theme, “Our Hearts, Our Home (美丽家园)”, honors the beauty of belonging, connection, and harmony across cultures and will be at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts.

Through music, dance, and visual storytelling, the performance explores what it means to find “home” — both in our heritage and in our shared future here in Silicon Valley. The evening unfolds in four captivating chapters that weave together Chinese cultural traditions and global perspectives to celebrate our collective spirit.

This year’s Spring Festival Gala bridges generations and communities — a reflection of the Chinese diaspora and the multicultural heart of Silicon Valley. It is not only a showcase of artistic excellence but also a heartfelt tribute to the values of love, perseverance, and belonging.
